Pioneer Lane Redevelopment

Pioneer Lane Redevelopment

Project Highlights

The ‘Hinchinbrook Way’ pattern was developed in collaboration with the various stakeholders and used as a feature pavement motif and stencil throughout the Laneway. It celebrates a local poem which enabled further community ownership and activation of the Laneway.
The proposed design aimed to collaborate with and celebrate the rich local artistic community and strengthen the Town’s identity.
Develop a material and visual language for the project which could be used in the wider refurbishments of the Ingham Town Centre.
Lead Consultants were commissioned by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council to complete a concept design for the redevelopment of the underutilised Pioneer Laneway in Ingham’s Commercial Centre. The project involved comprehensive site analysis and engagement with various stakeholders including Council, local business owners, community members and artists. The project aim was to activate the Laneway and to celebrate the local community’s artistic community through various public art commissions within the Laneway.

Obstacle

The project contained a substantial creative element in its design in the form of public art commissions. Careful consideration was needed to allow these pieces to integrate into the laneway without having the design confine or constrain the artists while maintaining the overall concept of the design. Further attention was also required in ensuring the laneway was able to be utilized day and night safely for the public.

Our Approach

As part of the project, Lead developed a layout for the placement of 4 separate public art commissions within the laneway. This ensured the artworks could be placed consistently throughout the laneway and in harmony with the landscape design, without dictating the outcome of the various commissions.
